Carlos felt exhausted.
His eyes burned with tiredness, and no matter how hard he tried to stay awake, he couldn’t keep them open. The night before, he had been up the entire time on a long mission on Mars. The organization had a planned colony there, and Carlos had been tasked with helping keep the grounds clean.
It wasn’t difficult work.
Just long.
Before he knew it, his head slowly lowered onto the desk in front of him.
A few moments later, he was asleep.
His face rested awkwardly against an open notebook, lines forming just above his eyebrow.. Somewhere in the middle of his sleep, he started having a strange dream about frogs and cattle.
The dream itself didn’t make much sense to him.
But somehow it felt urgent.
Suddenly Carlos jerked awake and shouted:
“Don’t feed the frogs! The cattle will eat them!”
The words echoed embarrassingly across the classroom.
Carlos blinked a few times, still disoriented from sleep.
Then slowly, his embarrassment faded into confusion.
The classroom was empty.
Completely empty.
Carlos sat upright and looked around uncertainly.
No students.
No teacher.
Nobody.
That didn’t make any sense.
At the very least, the teacher should have still been there.
“Where did everybody go?” Carlos quietly wondered to himself.
