Carlos was trying to remember something.
He stood there quietly searching through his thoughts, feeling the answer somewhere just beyond his reach. Whatever it was, it felt important. More important than the small forgotten things people usually brushed aside and remembered later.
Normally, Carlos would have let it go.
This time he couldn’t.
A strange uneasiness had settled into him, growing heavier the longer he failed to remember.
Then something near his feet caught his attention.
An ice cream cone lay upside down in the grass.
Carlos stared at it silently.
The ice cream had partially sunk into the ground, its cone tilted awkwardly to one side.
Someone was in danger.
But who?
